Select two or more columns in a table. (The number of rows you select makes no difference.)
Choose HOW to combine the cell contents for the selected columns. This can be:
(a) Cell contents side by side. (ONLY if all merged cells have at most one paragraph each.)
(b) OR cell contents grouped together vertically as separate items.Click the OK button to merge.

This is exactly the same as method '2' above, except that the order is reversed.
