Data Management

Easily save your find&replace lists to a Google Doc, or import saved lists from a Google Doc.

Then you can share your lists with other people, or simply store them for when they are needed.

You can also delete all of the Multi Find & Replace lists from the add-on memory.

See the details below.

How to load the 'Data management' options:

  1. Export all find/replace lists

Click this button to save all lists from Multi Find & Replace as tables in the current Google Doc.
(It is recommended that you create a separate Google Doc for this purpose.)
Click the blue Export button to export the lists.

In the example below, there are two lists in Multi Find & Replace, which are then exported to the document:

2. Import find/replace lists from a Google Doc

NOTE: The number of lists stored by Multi Find & Replace has been capped at 100.

Click this button to import lists into Multi Find & Replace from selected tables in the current Google Doc.

First, in the Google Doc, select the tables you want to import lists from:
(OR with no selection, all data tables in this document will be imported)

Next, click the green 'Import' button to import the lists:

Now the imported lists will be available for use in Multi Find & Replace:

3. Delete all find/replace lists

Use this function to clear the data storage memory

While you can have many different lists all loaded at once, they all have to be loaded into your browser. This may cause slow performance if there are many large lists.

If you want to keep some or all of the lists, you should export them all first using the blue button, then after deleting all of the stored lists you can easily select and import back the ones you need to use.

How to create and edit lists using tables

Lists are exported and imported from a Google Doc as tables with five rows and two columns.
So you can easily create find & replace lists or edit exported lists outside of Multi Find & Replace.

All data tables must have 5 rows and 2 columns. Any other tables will be ignored.

When importing data from a table, only the second column is actually used.

The structure is shown below:

The diagram below shows how you can create list data tables in a Google Doc.
These can then be immediately imported into Multi Find & Replace.
Note that you can leave the 'Regex start character' blank when a list does not include regular expressions.
